As mentioned above, face pigeons are a group that is united by similar flight mechanics. Due to the active work of the tail and the wings, the height and surface of the flight of these birds are easily adjustable. Such birds are able to rise to a considerable height using displacement of air masses like large birds of prey - eagles and falcons. The rise of the wing is very soft, smooth, butt-like pigeons are floating in the air.

But the name of this species brought a special, mechanical flight technique. It can be observed at wind speeds of 1 to 7 meters per second, when the bird cannot climb. Then it is leveled by the butt and coordinates its flight thanks to the wings and tail. A well-trained pet can stay in the air for up to 8 hours.

Traditionally, there are two breeds with such a flight mechanics - Nikolaev high-flying pigeons and Kirovograd lilac. It is important to remember that pigeons serpasty in any form should not be in the pedigree of birds of this species.

History of

Face pigeons were bred at the end of the nineteenth century. They were formed in Ukraine, near the sea, where a strong wind was blowing. Thanks to this, a unique flight technique was formed. The forerunners are those birds that were brought by sailors to this land about a hundred years ago.

The center of origin of the species is presumably located near the Black Sea.

The Nikolaev pigeons as a separate subspecies were formed a little later, towards the end of the nineteenth century. They received their name from the city in which they were withdrawn - Nikolaev. Birds of the city of Nikolai were obtained by crossing foreign species with local ones. Breeders took out the bird, which could withstand certain forms of flight for a long time. The Nikolaev pigeons are one of the best versions which was removed in Ukraine.

Kirovograd are derived in the city of the same name and are much smaller in size than their relatives.

Varieties

Face pigeons have two types - they are Nikolaev pigeons and Kirovograd.

The Nikolaev pigeons are beautiful feathery with a thin, streamlined body, a dense feather and strong wings. Representatives of this species develop a powerful, feathery tail. The musculature is strong, allowing feathered to spend up to 9 hours in the air without stopping. Thanks to their characteristic appearance, they can also be found under the name "Pigeons Nikolaev White-tailed Ponds". The length of the body of such an animal reaches 40 centimeters, the stand has an angle of 45 degrees. The head is neat, rounded, forehead low, smoothly turning into the back of the head. Eyes are orange or golden. The bill is average, slightly bent, both parts fit tightly. Neck with lush plumage, full. On the tail are 16 tail feathers. Paws are short, red-brown.

Representatives of this species prefer exclusively lonely flights. Despite the fact that in the air birds often rise in flocks.

The Nikolaev pigeons are mostly black or rust-black in color, but there are also red-faced representatives. The Nikolaev white - high-flying and very expensive, are able to be in the air for a long time. These unpretentious birds require little care. The most important thing is to correctly and attentively approach their training.

Among the large number of positives, this subspecies also contains negative ones. The body is narrow, the eyelids are wide. Hips and hips are painted a little. In general, the exterior is too massive, sometimes there is a chub on the head. Sometimes you can observe a sunken chest, a rare tail, a disagreement and a thickening of the beak.

However, these minor defects of the subspecies do not diminish its value and popularity among fans of these wonderful animals.

The Kirovograd variety is much smaller and brighter than its relatives. This kind of more decorative look with characteristic elements of the front flight. The head is elongated, smooth transition of the forehead to the back of the head, the eyes are orange, the neck is dense. With lush plumage, tail with 16 tail feathers. Colors are the most diverse. Birds do not stay in the air for more than 4 hours and do not rise to a great height, as they are blown away by the wind.

Where are you from

High-flying Tortsovye were first recorded in 1910. The birthplace of birds is Ukraine, the city of Nikolaev, but over time they started breeding in Kirovograd. Then the years of Tortsov pigeons changed slightly, and they were called Kirovograd. But it was the Nikolaev pigeon that became the progenitor of Ukrainian breeds.

It is believed that the wind climate of the steppes of the Nikolaev region influenced the formation of new species of Tiger pigeons and their years. And if at first only Ukraine could observe and breed these beautiful birds, now Tortsovye have spread and gained popularity in Russia.

What is special

The breed has a peculiar manner of flight: pigeons rise sharply to a height, and then fold their wings and plummet. Because of this, in English they are called none other than "techersezy." The bird is able to be in the air for about an hour, and only regular workouts can extend this time to 9 hours.

Nikolaev vysokoletnye often become winners in various competitions. When in England for the first time the international championship for pigeons was held, it was the End pigeons that received the gold. At first, they were more common in coastal areas, but now there are enough of them in various Ukrainian and Russian cities. Perhaps it was the unsurpassed years that made them so popular among pigeon breeders because the butt pigeons of their years fascinated. Recently, in Poland, they were able to breed a new breed, the Polish Orlik, whose feathers are absolutely white. They have kept the style of circleless flight, and even a couple of clubs of fans of this variety have already appeared.

If the appearance of the birds can be assessed by numerous photos, then the manner of flying can be conveyed only by a detailed description. Face pigeons soar upward very quickly and descend at a 90-degree angle to the ground, therefore, for these maneuvers, there is enough space for up to 4 meters. Winged fly easily and naturally without creating noise. Wings hold only in parallel and as if twisted them into the air when moving. In this case, the tail unfolds, and the head becomes invisible. Optimal for spectacular flight wind speeds of up to 7 m / s. Under such conditions, Tortsovye are forced to catch the wind with their wings and do not have the ability to soar very quickly. Winged, though often fly in flocks, they prefer to stay in the sky one by one.

First of all, you need to understand that the Nikolaev and pigeons of Kirovograd Tortsovye have a number of certain differences. The first is the base breed. She tends to soar at high altitude and move around tirelessly for up to 7 hours in a row. A more detailed description of the following:

  • representatives of the species reach up to 40 cm in length,
  • they are characterized by a case inclination of 45 °,
  • elongated round head,
  • orange or gold eyes
  • medium sized beak downward curved
  • strong neck in lush feathers
  • well developed chest
  • plumage of different shades: there are white, black, colored and variegated representatives,
  • lush tail, consisting of 16 feathers,
  • feathers pressed to the body, rigid,
  • reddish feet.

They are not considered to be particularly beautiful, as they are flight, not decorative, and even the price of each individual depends on the flight qualities. The cheapest you can buy a bird for 1500 rubles, but there are also representatives of pigeons, for which they ask for up to several hundred dollars.

Kirovograd Lilac, as they are otherwise also called, is much smaller, but it does have natural grace and bearing, and, besides, it is extremely playful. When breeding them, there are difficulties in hatching the offspring, because the male and female are too fast and active and do not want to do it. The external characteristics of the pigeons are as follows: the length of the whole body is up to 32 cm, a small head quite appropriate in size, a white eye color, a short beak, and a developed chest has a dent in the center. Wings in folded form almost reach the tip of the tail, dense feathers, various colors of plumage: black, yellow, red, less often - white.

What kind of pigeons called Tortsovymi?

There are Serpatie species. They are most often seen in parks, courtyards and just outside. Serpathians during the flight make wing swing. Butt swings are not done, so they say about such pigeons that they do not fly, but face. From this reception and the name went. By the way, butt pigeons do not have any impurities Serpatyh.

Flight style

The wings and tail of Tortsov feathery are very mobile. Due to this, their surface and flight height are easily regulated, which also depends on the direction and strength of the air flow.

With good training, such flyers can stand in the air from 7 to 9 hours, sometimes even more.

During the flight prefer loneliness, but at high altitude. If we talk specifically about the style of flight, here you will not manage with two words. During the flight, Tortsov can be compared to eagles, when they hover without moving their wings. Sometimes they look like beautiful butterflies or larks, while the wingspan is larger and smoother, unlike other pigeons. From the ground, it may seem that Tornadoes want to cut the clouds with their wings and sharp, but smooth movements.

Nikolaevsk

The Nikolaev high-flying birds are an outstanding species, whose homeland is considered to be Ukraine. Feature can be called the hull structure, which is quite smooth. The hull is covered with dense feathers, which serve as a support during the flight. The tail and wings of such a bird are very mobile. And thanks to a fairly strong musculature, these flyers can soar in the air for a long time, which indicates a great stamina.

Nikolaev birds, unlike the usual ones, which can be seen in each park, can fly up without circles and thus reach a great height in a short time. In addition, if you train such a pet, then he will be able to stay in height for 5-7 hours, without training - 1-2 hours in the air. A distinctive feature can be considered the dependence on the wind: for their flight just need fresh wind.

Kirovograd lilac

Kirovograd lilac flyers are significantly different in appearance: white eyes, dense dark plumage with a purple tint, proud posture and short legs. Unlike previous birds, the flight of Kirovograd can not be long. However, it remains at a good, high level in terms of quality.

Kirovograd lilac flyers have their own peculiarity - they cannot rise to a very high level. In such cases, the birds begin to fall back. However, such troubles can be eliminated with the help of special training. Kirovograd feathered most often bred in order to observe their beautiful and unique flight. Although it lasts not for long, but the technique is unsurpassed.

Breed distribution

The ancestors of such pigeons are birds, brought to Ukraine by sailors several centuries ago. Flight style as a unique feature of these pigeons was recognized only in the late 50s. Poultry farmers were breeding such a breed and selling pigeons in different cities of the USSR, and birds were also popular among foreigners.

Began to withdraw and new breeds of birds. It was the mass breeding of pigeons for sale that led to the loss of the flight features. These birds were always expensive, so the owners simply were afraid to let them out and kept them in the premises.

Despite the rarity of birds with such a flight, on some sites and now you can find announcements about the sale of face pigeons. However, an experienced poultry farmer is recommended to first examine the characteristics of this style.

There are two breeds of pigeons with a face flight:

The remaining breeds obtained by crossing with such birds are not end. Very often, poultry farmers sell serpastic pigeons, they make a characteristic bend of the wing during the flight. They are often confused with face, but they are not rare.

Description of face pigeons

The Nikolaev pigeons differ in high speed of flight. Birds have the following special features:

  • long body about 39-40 cm
  • the head is long, has rounded outlines, the forehead is narrow, smoothly connected to the back of the head,
  • eyes are a bright orange color,
  • beak bends down,
  • the neck is wide, has abundant plumage,
  • chest massive, combined in line with the tail,
  • tail is volumetric, has about 16 main feathers,
  • plumage is dense, completely adjacent to the body,
  • legs have a reddish color,
  • There is a different color of feathers, including black, white, multi-colored.

These pigeons have no outstanding external data, they are not decorative. The cost of a bird depends on the quality of the end flight.

Kirovograd pigeons are smaller, they are more graceful, overly active. Some poultry farmers even encountered difficulties in breeding them. Because females are too playful, sometimes they refuse to hatch eggs. Pigeons have the following features:

  1. The length of the body reaches 30-32 cm. In the presence of a deviation from this norm, the bird is considered defective.
  2. The head is miniature.
  3. The eyes are bright.
  4. Short beak, bent down.
  5. The chest is massive, in the middle there is a depression.
  6. Wings tightly pressed to the body.
  7. Plumage tough.
  8. There are several colors: black, orange and black. You can meet red, yellow, white doves.

Snow white face pigeon

Although the birds differ in face flight, they do not rise to a great height. If with a fair wind they rush up, then immediately move back. It is likely that this feature was acquired due to the frequent cross-breeding of individuals with related genes. However, these birds have a beautiful appearance, compared to their predecessors.

Bird training

The main criterion of flight of doves is the wind. In the absence of it, birds can fly in a circle, and sometimes even fall to the ground, therefore most often coastal regions are the habitat of birds.

Birds are trained starting at 30 days of age. At first they are trained only in the conditions of the aviary. Gradually, birds are released into the wild and are taught to take off from the roof. Only strong individuals can be released for independent flight. The trainings are quite intensive, they can take up to 6-7 hours a day, because the butt and serpast pigeons participate in various competitions.

Of great importance is the ability of the bird to quickly restore power. Healthy pigeons are active even after a long workout. As a result of regular training, Nikolaev pigeons can be in the air for up to 7-8 hours, and Kirovograd pigeons for 2-3 hours. It is advisable to conduct training in the morning under sunny weather conditions. In cloudy weather, birds have a poor orientation in space, they may fall.

Face dove training

It is important to watch how the bird rises up during training. Because, subject to strong winds, the young can carry over long distances. However, they usually return to their loft for 2-3 days anyway. Birds fly alone or in pairs. In rare cases, a flock of face pigeons can be found.

Pigeon selection method

Birds should be acquired only with a good pedigree, which must be provided by poultry farmers. And also you should pay attention to the characteristic notes that are registered in the nursery.

With further breeding of pigeons, it is necessary to pay special attention to the state of eggs. If there are damages on the surface, flows, you should immediately remove them from the total masonry. Females may need additional mineral nutrition.

After hatching, it is important to monitor the condition of the chicks. Young animals with excessively low weight, external defects, are immediately rejected.

Pigeon content

Many poultry farmers prefer to keep exactly the Nikolaev pigeons, because such energetic birds are distinguished by unpretentiousness. Birds can feel great in different climatic conditions. Females hatch eggs on their own. Such birds need a spacious aviary, they love freedom - it is impossible to keep them in an apartment.

Aviary for pigeons

Even poultry breeders will be able to breed pigeons. Dovecote premises should be regularly cleaned and disinfected. It is important to ensure the absence of drafts, mold. At the very beginning of winter, females and males are seated in different rooms. Combining them in one enclosure is recommended only in February. In this case, in the spring you can get young.

Pigeons are fed no more than 2 times a day. Light foods that are easily digested by the birds' digestive system should be preferred. The diet of adults includes corn grits, peas, oats, greens and succulent feeds are also necessary for birds.

14 days before mating, it is recommended to add hemp seeds to the feed.

For a simple and fast making pigeon trough with their own hands, which will take just a couple of hours, you will need the following accessories:

  • four wooden bars and four medium boards,
  • plywood sheet
  • nails, screwdriver and shank,
  • pencil,
  • measuring tape or ruler.

Step one: from the boards we knock together a box of arbitrary size - this will be the basis of the feeder. It is important that the sides of the future feeder be high enough so that the birds cannot get inside and scatter the food. Bars need to be firmly fixed on the side surfaces of the boards, as shown in the picture below.

Step two: From the remnants of plywood we assemble a triangular roof, fitting it to the dimensions of the base. It is desirable that the roof had a sharp corner, so that the pigeons did not walk on it and did not sit on top.

Step Three: We attach a drinking bowl to the feeder so that the birds always have clear water. To do this, take the usual plastic bottle in which the hole is cut. The bottle itself is attached to the side surface of the feeder with a cord.

Pigeons Peacocks - about the appearance, content, diet and breeding

It is not difficult to guess that the pigeons of the peacock breed got their name due to the characteristic structure of the tail. Their maintenance and breeding does not have fundamental differences from other breeds, moreover - peacocks are unpretentious, therefore they do not require the creation of any special conditions for them.

Those who consider the breeding of pigeons of peacocks as a matter of their life are proud of the front stand of their pets. She really looks impressive - the pigeon stands still, standing at the very tips of her fingers and proudly throwing back her head.

In peacocks, an awkward and rough body, excessive back length, violation of the shape of the tail (an umbrella or a funnel) or its small size are considered unacceptable. Standards indicate defects like bifurcation of the chest, high landing, “pants” on the legs, lack of clarity of the pattern and insufficient brightness of the color.

The ratio is more loyal to the size of peacocks - in the standards the possible range is defined “from small to medium”. At the same time, at exhibitions, when choosing a winner between birds with the same remaining indicators, the palm will be given to a more miniature one.

It is believed that white, blue and black peacocks have the largest percentage of birds with an ideal form that does not contradict the standards.

The peculiarities of care for unpretentious peacocks should include the need for careful trimming of tail feathers before the beginning of the breeding season.

The pride of the owner, the gorgeous tail of the pigeons of this breed, often prevents the birds from mating.

Cutting 5-6 feathers from each side of the bird will help solve this problem.

In order to successfully breed pigeons of peacocks, minimizing the receipt of birds with defects, you must be able to correctly select the pair.

It is obvious that the crossing of birds with the same, even insignificant, deviations from the standards is unacceptable. In this case, the deficiency will not only be observed, but also with a high probability will increase in the offspring.

The constitution of birds, the shape of the tail, chest, head, posture, and general health should be considered decisive indicators in the selection of pairs. We should not neglect the origin of the pigeons, which are prepared for mating.

The rest of the pairing, nesting and hatching eggs of peacocks is practically no different from other breeds.

Pigeons are peacocks, the care of which, in general, does not require too many worries, is not the best flyers. Nevertheless, there are methods of training, with the help of which it is possible to achieve that peacocks could fly no worse than ordinary circling pigeons.

Experienced golubevody own secrets that allow you to get out of difficult situations. For example, to stimulate breeding pigeons, you can begin to give vitamins or a small amount of raw dough. The reason for the failure of the dove to sit on the nest may be a change of place.

Strict standards do not specify how many feathers should be in the tail of a peacock. In most cases, they are 30-32, however, an increase in the number is not considered a defect. More demanding rules for the shape of the tail.

So, first of all, it should form a flat circle without gaps.

The so-called “laces” of the tail should not be “ragged” in appearance, and their length should not exceed 3 cm, since the longer “decoration” does not look very neat, transparent and thin.

The pigeons of the peacock breed are not only very beautiful, but are not demanding in their care and maintenance. The combination of such characteristics allowed the breed to gain immense popularity both among owners of large nurseries and among pigeon breeders.

The years of the pigeons are very beautiful, with elements of the butt. However, birds do not rise to a great height. If the wind blows above average, the pigeons start moving backwards. The reasons for this behavior are unclear. Perhaps this is due to the frequent closely related interbreeding during breeding.

Birds stay in the air for a maximum of 2-3 hours. Such a short flight duration is fully compensated by its beauty. The cost of Kirovograd pigeons ranges from 500 to 2500 rubles per pair.
